JEROME F. SCHERER, 80, Olney died Wednesday April 4, 1984 in the Olney Care Center. Services at Zirkle Funeral Home with Pastor David McNabb presiding. Burial in Crest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Scherer was born February 12, 1904 in Richland County, the son of Theodore and Lena (Blatter) Scherer. He married LaVern Dewhirst June 1, 1930 and she preceded him in death May 5, 1973.

He first taught elementary school in Richland County. He worked at Gaffners for 30 years as a jeweler and watchmaker. He also operated Jerry's Jewel Shop in Olney. He later worked as an insurance agent for Country Companies Insurance and worked at AMF before retiring. He was a past Exalted Ruler of Lodge 926 B.P.O.E. Elks and was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Olney Lodge 140 A.F. & A.M.

Survivors include three sons, Jerry T., Decatur; Richard D., Olney and Gaylord L., Peoria; a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Juldine) Maloney, St. Charles, Mo.; a brother, Luther Scherer, Olney; two sisters, his twin, Mrs. C.M. (Julia) Henry, San Antonio, Texas and Mrs. Donald (Evelyn) Lurvey, Rogers, Ark.; seven grandchildren and 37 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Lloyd; and a sister, Mrs. Pearle Schnefke.
