U.S. Congressman. After graduating from Cedarville College, he taught in the public schools of Greene County, Ohio. He served as clerk of courts for Greene County (1909 to 1913), studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1911, and commenced the practicing of law in Xenia, Ohio. He served as chairman of the Greene County Republican Committee (1920 to 1932) and was a member of the Ohio State Senate (1925 to 1928). In 1933, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-third and Seventy-fourth Congresses, serving until 1937. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he continued practicing law until his death.
