Elizabeth A. "Beth" Sturm, active in community affairs in Buffalo's Kaisertown neighborhood, died unexpectedly Friday in her Kaisertown home. She was 43.
A Buffalo native, the former Elizabeth Rowe and her husband of 14 years, Gregg, who died Oct. 8, moved back to Kaisertown from Florida in 2008 and became active members of the Kaisertown Coalition. They headed the coalition's National Night Out for the past few years and were members of its recently formed bylaws committee.
Known as the Queen of Hearts Couple at St. Casimir's Oratory, they were volunteers at Tuesday night bingo and helped coordinate the Kaisertown Clothing Renewal Drive at St. Casimir's Social Center. This year's drive, which will be held Sunday, will be dedicated to their memory.
Mrs. Sturm also taught Sunday school and was a volunteer for the Clinton Street Revitalization Committee, which is dedicated to cleaning and maintaining the street.
She and her husband also provided care and refuge for lost and stray cats.
Surviving are her parents, Charles and Nancy Rowe, and two brothers, Douglas and Paul Rowe.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 9 a.m. Thursday in St. Casimir's Oratory, Casimir and Weimar streets.

Beth was an incredibly funny and witty character. She gave to everyone she knew and we were blessed to have one of God's angels walking among us if even for a short time. Beth concluded a long time search for her biological family earlier this year. She was very happy to meet her siblings and birth father in August 2011.
Beth and Gregg truly were the Queen of Hearts couple. Their love shone brightly in everything Beth said and did.
Beth leaves behind many dear friends whom will always remember the amazing woman she was. Whether she knew you for a month or ten years, she had a gift of making you feel loved and like family.
