Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Served in the Civil War first as the Lieutenant Colonel of the 22nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry, a three-month unit. When that regiment was mustered out, he was commissioned as Lieutenant Colonel of the 81st Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He remained with the 81st until he was give a promotion to Colonel and was assigned to command the 91st Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1`865 for "gallant and faithful service at the battle of Cloyd's Mountain, Va." (bio by: Russ)
