Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Second Lieutenant in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Sergeant in Company B, 3d Massachusetts Cavalry for action on April 19, 1864 at Natchitoches, Louisiana. His citation reads "Seeing a Confederate officer in advance of his command, charged on him alone and unaided and captured him."
