U.S. Congresswoman. Wife of U.S. Congressman Patrick J. Boland, due to a heart attack death of her husband, by special election to fill the vacancy, she was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-seventh Congress, serving from 1942 to 1943. She was the first woman from Pennsylvania to serve in the United States Congress. Not a candidate for reelection, she worked as an executive secretary for the Dutch Manufacturing Company Pennsylvania until she retired in 1957.
