Marilyn graduated from Lakeview High School in Chicago, IL, and attended Bethel College, in St. Paul, MN. She received her nursing degree in 1953 from The James Ward Thorne School of Nursing at Passavant Hospital, affiliated with Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago, IL. She married Theodore "Ted" Batterman on April 21, 1954, in Cook County Illinois, and was his beloved wife for 57 years.
