Actor, Singer. He was a prolific grizzled looking actor with a trademark handlebar mustache who was best known for playing the character roles of stagecoach drivers, stage guards, lawmen, prospectors, bartenders, townsmen, posse riders, and sidekicks, usually in classic western films with the likes of Noah Beery, John Wayne, Paul Fix, and Gabby Hayes, but some were uncredited. He will be best remembered for playing the role of 'Jim Irwin' in the action western film drama, "Code Of The Cow Country" (1937). The film which was directed by Oscar Apfel, which was written for the screen by Wilton West and Bettye Burbridge, and which also starred Buddy Roosevelt, Elsa Benham, Melbourne MacDowell, Walter Maly, James Sheridan, Frank Ellis, and Ruth Royce, tells the story of Jim West, foreman of John Calhoun's ranch, who falls in love with Helen, the boss's daughter, after rescuing her from a runaway horse. Her brother, Ted, falls into the companionship of Bill Jackson, a notorious gambler and saloon keeper, who persuades Ted to sign I. O. U.'s while under the influence of alcohol. Jim, in company with Red Irwin, a tough deputy sheriff, confronts the gambler and forces a confession. Jackson plans a raid on the Calhoun cattle, forcing Ted to be his ally. Dolores, a dancehall girl, overhears the plot and tells Jim, causing Helen to misunderstand his motives. Jim's men capture the bandits, and Ted is forgiven by his father when he is wounded in a fight with Jackson. Jim is reunited with Helen after explaining his relation to Dolores. He was born one of two children as Henry Branch Bell in Los Angeles, California, to Francis Bell and his wife Sarah Elam Bell on January 21, 1892. He made his actual debut playing the role of 'Pat Webb' in the western film "The Last Straw" (1920). The film which was directed by and written for the screen by Denison Clift and Charles Swickard, which was also written for the screen by Harold Titus, and which also starred Buck Jones Vician Rich, Jane Talent, Colin Kenny, Zeib Morris, Lom Poff, Slim Padgett, Charles Le Moyne, James Robert Chandler, and William Gillis, tells the story of upon inheriting the H. C. Ranch, a young Easterner named Jane Hunter ventures West to take possession of her legacy. Soon after arriving, she appoints a cowboy named Hepburn as the foreman. Ranch hand Tom Beck suspects that Hepburn may be in league with the band of rustlers who are victimizing the ranch but says nothing. An attachment springs up between Tom and his boss, and when Dick Hilton, Jane's former suitor, follows her West and begins making unwelcome advances toward her, Tom intervenes and orders him from the house. With Hepburn's resignation as foreman, Tom takes over the job and, after a quarrel with Jane, sets out to track down the rustlers. Captured by the outlaws, Tom is left to die in a remote canyon. As Tom struggles to free himself, the gang is apprehended and brought to trial. Jane is sentencing them as the escaped Tom appears in the courtroom. Overjoyed, she rushes towards him, and in the ensuing chaos, the gang escapes. A shootout follows and Tom wins both the fight and Jane. Besides, playing the role of 'Pat Webb' in the western film "The Last Straw" (1920), and playing the role of 'Jim Irwin' in the action western film drama, "Code Of The Cow Country" (1937), his many
