Nevada Governor. A native of New York, Stevenson moved to Nevada in 1859 to try his luck in the Comstock Lode. In 1866 he was elected to serve in the Nevada State Senate. In 1875 he became a member of the Board of Regents of the University of Nevada until 1887. In 1887 he was elected the 5th Governor of Nevada, a position he held until his death from typhoid fever in 1890. He is the brother of former Idaho Territorial Governor, Edward A. Stevenson.
