Joseph was the son of James Creighton, native of County Monaghan, Ireland and his wife Bridget Hughes, a native of County Armagh, Ireland. The couple emigrated to the United States and settled in Ohio. Both are buried in Somerset, Perry County, Ohio. They couple had nine children, including Joseph's brother, Edward Creighton, founder of Omaha's First National Bank and through his estate after his death, Creighton College, later to be known as Creighton University.
In 1856, Joseph and his brothers, John and Edward Creighton, settled in Omaha. John died in 1866. Joseph's daughter, married Mr. Shelby of Omaha.
DIED. CREIGHTON - Joseph, age 68 years. Funeral Wednesday, October 18, at 9 a. m. sharp, from family residence, Seventeenth and Cass streets, to Holy Family church. Interment, Holy Sepulchre cemetery.
