Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army in Company I, 37th Massachusetts Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on June 18, 1864 near Petersburg, Virginia. His citation reads "Voluntarily exposed himself to the fire of a Union brigade to stop their firing on the Union skirmish line."
