KLEIN - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kerry Klein on January 27th, 2011 at the age of 70. Kerry was born February 28, 1940 to Dede and Laura Klein in Saskatoon. He attended Princess Alexandra and Bedford Road Collegiate where he became an accomplished athlete, competing at a high level in baseball, track - as a sprinter - football with the Hilltops and hockey with the Saskatoon Jr Quakers. His first love was hockey, as it was with his father before him. Kerry played hockey in numerous places throughout Saskatchewan and the US before coming to Yorkton in 1963. Here he met & married Erla Morrison September 11, 1965.

Soon after, hockey brought them to the Peace River Country. They moved to Hythe, AB where daughter Tracy was born in 1967. They continued down the trail to Beaverlodge, AB and Dawson Creek, BC playing hockey and taking the opportunity to become a purchasing agent, which brought another move to Fort Nelson, BC. This is where their son Brad was born in 1970. Kerry worked for Keen Industries for the next eight years. Kerry continued to play rec hockey and went to the annual Old Timer's National Tournaments with the Yorkton Terrier Old Timers.

Prince Rupert, BC was the next stop on the journey, and in 1979 Kerry returned to Yorkton to share his family with his friends for the next few years. He was employed by Leon's and Morris until 1984. A move to Grande Prairie, AB provided Kerry the opportunity for a change in career to the hospitality industry. With his newly honed talents, back to Yorkton they came…back to where the story began… to his home & friends. He worked at the Holiday Inn, the Corona and finally Pockets Sports Bar. Kerry was able to retire from the workforce as a bar manager which allowed him to focus even more on his loving family that was created. In summer Kerry could be found on the golf course where "The Boys" had their 6AM tee off time at Deer Park on weekends. Unfortunately health issues prevented Kerry from golfing in his retirement years. The Family began to expand in 1989 and into the 1990's with Tracy's children Micheal, Mark and Megan bringing new joys to "Grandpa" every step of the way, loving every moment they were able to share. Brad's son Carter became the most recent apple of "Lil Grandpa's" eye in 2007. They shared many moments that brightened each others' soul, even in their short time together.

None of this Love Story could have been possible without "The Boys" and their wives…and the never ending support they give each other…

Kerry leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 45 yrs Erla, daughter Tracy McLennan (Tony Cox) grandchildren Micheal, Mark and Megan McLennan and Kenzie Cox of Sexsmith, AB, son Brad Klein (Kim Erickson) and grandson Carter of Saskatoon, SK, sister Carroll Klein (Greg Michalenko) of Waterloo, ON and brother Murray of Port Moody, BC and his children Brett and Kristen and their families, Aunt Buddy Lahey of Saskatoon, SK and mother in law Jean Morrison of Brandon, MB plus numerous cousins. Kerry was predeceased by his parents Dede and Laura Klein and his father in law Earl Morrison. A Celebration of Life was held on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 from the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey officiating. Organist, Amanda Buhler led the congregation in the singing of the hymns 'How Great Thou Art' and 'Amazing Grace'. Interment took place at the Garden of Memories with his son Brad Klein serving as urn bearer. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of his mother Laura. Arrangements were entrusted to Bailey's Funeral Home.
