Elias was born about 1839 to George and Sarah Ream, in Ohio. In the 1850 census, he lived in Suffield, Portage County, Ohio with his parents, sister, Lovina, and brother, Myron F (#29715409). Through DNA, it was found that Elias Ream's sister was Lovina (Ream) Baker, wife of "IsrieI" Baker (#42631237). In 1860, he was a farm laborer for the Rudy family in Stark County, Ohio. Elias then was mustered in the Union Army of the American Civil War on September 18, 1862 under the command of Colonel Jackson A. Lucy. Elias mustered out in June 22, 1865. He married Christina Foust in Stark County, Ohio on August 29,1865. Elias became a father to Sarah in 1866 while living in Indiana. In March of 1870, he would become a father once again to David. Elias, who was a farmer, remained in Clay Township, LaGrange County, IN area through 1870 and 1880. Elias was found hanged in his own barn January 6, 1887. The incident was ruled a suicide.
