Architect. Considered in his day to be a "Southern icon," many of the homes and buildings he and his firm designed in the South have become landmarks. Each year the J. Neel Reid Prize honors rising architects in Georgia. Two books about him and his work have been published, "Architecture of Neel Reid in Georgia" by James Grady and "J. Neel Reid, Architect." by William R. Mitchell, Jr. His career was short-lived when he died of brain cancer at the age of 41.
