Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Brevet Brigadier General in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Colonel in the 146th New York Infantry for action on April 1, 1865 at Five Forks, Virginia. His citation reads "The first to enter the enemy's works, where he captured two flags."
