Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Corporal in the Union Army in Company C, 20th Ohio Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on April 22, 1863 at Vicksburg, Mississippi. His citation reads "Voluntarily served as one of the crew of a transport that passed the forts under a heavy fire."
