YORKTOWN--Raymond E. Aul (Bob Ed), left us and joined the Lord on Saturday, January 14, 2012. He was born in Marion, Indiana on June 8, 1925 and lived 86 years. He was the son of Edward Lawrence Aul Jr. & Esther Pearl Meade Aul. He last resided at Elmcroft of Muncie, Indiana.

Bob Ed moved from Marion to Muncie, IN early in childhood. He attended St. Lawrence grade school (where he was an altar boy), graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1943, and attended Notre Dame University.

Bob Ed was a World War II veteran, joining the U.S. Navy in February 1944. He served on the USS Capricornus (AKA-57), USS Arcturus (AKA-1) and USS Kermit Roosevelt (ARG-16). He received the American Area Campaign Medal, Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal before honorable discharge in July 1946.

Bob Ed then married the love of his life, Twylla (Tillie) Deon Hiatt, on July 15, 1950 and they were married for 49 years before her passing in 1999. He worked at several local factories, including Cammack Die Company, Ontario Corporation and Warner Gear before beginning his own forge tool & die business, Aftco Mfg., located in Cammack, IN. After many years of hard work and raising seven children in Cammack, he retired and sold his business. Bob Ed and his wife, Tillie, also became certified twin-engine pilots and they loved flying together.

Bob Ed was a self-taught musician and among the many instruments he played included the piano, organ, guitar, banjo, and harmonica. He also sang and yodeled to his music, and therefore created many opportunities for a family sing along and holiday entertainment. After retirement, he used his musical talents to entertain at many local private clubs. He created quite a following and was given the nickname "Sweet Eddie". He will now be tickling the golden ivories in Heaven.

Bob Ed was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Muncie Moose Lodge #33, Dunkirk Elks #1776, VFW #15015, American Legion #321, and Eagles #231.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Greg, in 2004.

Calling hours will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2012 in St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery with military rites by Veteran of Delaware County.

Our family wishes to give the sincerest thanks to the people of Elmcroft of Muncie. The caregivers there are truly "angels on earth". In addition, a special thanks to State of the Heart Hospice for their support.
