H.B. Hinton (Boyd) peacefully passed away on January 11, 2012 surrounded by loved ones. Boyd was born to C.H. and Berniece Hinton in Urbana, Illinois on November 18, 1928. He completed Army boot camp in 1945 as the war was drawing down.

In 1946, he attended the University of Arkansas, Boyd lived in Amarillo where he owned and operated a grain elevator, a sporting goods store, M&L Transfer and Storage Co., H&H Wholesale Sporting Goods, Canyon Plastics, The Worm Factory, and Boyd Hinton Fine Art. He was a developer of Lake Stockton now known as Lake Tanglewood in Amarillo. Boyd married Patsy Jo Leachman and had two sons, Markus Lee and Michael Boyd Hinton. Patsy Jo Hinton died in 1971. In 1973, he married Maelyn Latham Roberts and helped her rear Mills, Jim, and Eve. He owned a " Putt Putt Golf" franchise in Corpus Christi, after which Boyd and Maelyn made Corpus Christi their home. Boyd's love of his family and friends transcended the ordinary. From childhood, Boyd had a unique love of fishing. He was a tournament fisherman and won the Texas State Bass Tournament in 1969, and continued to win fishing awards as a tournament fisherman. He loved fishing on his water wagon, a fishing boat that he created and manufactured, which was a featured article and on the cover of Popular Mechanics.

Boyd also enjoyed playing golf. The close association with his golf friends meant a great deal to him. Boyd will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and his practical jokes.

Boyd was preceded in death by Patsy Jo Hinton and his parents, Berniece and Charlie Hinton. Boyd is survived by his wife Maelyn, sons Mark and wife Christine of Norman, Oklahoma, Michael of Norman, Oklahoma, Mills Roberts and wife LaStarr of Irving, Texas, Jim Roberts of Amarillo; daughter Eve Elliott and husband Rob of Sugar Land, and grandchildren Sawyer Hinton, Coulter Roberts, Ali Roberts, Lauren Elliott, Blake Elliott, and Justin Mason. He is also survived by his brother Peter J. Hinton and his wife Mary of San Francisco, his brother Michael J. Hinton and his wife Dodie of Houston, and his sister Jayne Gross and her husband Jerry of The Woodlands.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rick Dunham officiating.
