My father was born James W. Simmons, his father biological father of record was Andrew Simmons, where abouts unknown after 1934. His mother Evie O. Wilson (Floyd?)
divorced him in 1935 and married John A. Lemons. Her five older children who were born Simmons, then took the name of Lemons without any legal proceedings. In the household he grew up in, there was also both his grandmothers. His Mother's mother, Nancy "Carrie" 'nee Wilson Floyd and his Father's mother, Elizabeth J Ramsey.

He joined the army in 1946, just at the end of WWII. His brother John Robert Lemons
died in Iceland in 1947, due to an accidental fire, after spending his first tour in the South Pacific. My father James was in the infantry and his brother John Robert was in the Army Air Corps, which became the Air Force after WWII. The two of them were very close.

My father and mother. Faye Goolsby
married on June 30, 1949. They lived in Memphis for a while. He worked for Memphis Furniture for a few years and rejoined the army during the Korean War. My mother went to live with his parents, Evie O. Wilson (Floyd?)
and John Alexander Lemons.

In early 1955, along with four children (I was one), all living today, they moved to France for 4 years. While in France a fifth child was born.

In 1959, they were stationed in White Plains, New York, where Lonnie Ray Lemons was born. His death came after that of our parents.

By 1961, we were in Boston, where a daughter was born. Then while my father was in Korea for a year we moved back to Mississippi. In 1963, another the last of their children together was born. That's 5 girls and 3 boys.

In 1970, he married Mary Rose 'nee Harris Lemons, the widow of his younger brother Harley Weekly Lemons.
A son was born in 1972 but the marriage did not last and they divored in 1974.

There are hints of an ex-wife and son in Germany were he spent 4 years prior to retiring in 1970.

Of his siblings only one brother A Q Lemons who is still living. Besides the one mentioned above, the others are: Ruth Ellen Elizabeth Lemons, Thelma Idell Lemons and Bobby Eli Lemons.

He lived in Senatobia at his death but still had a residence in Memphis.
