The following announcement was published in The Times on July 16, 1898:

OFFICE OF THE TEUTONIA FIRE INSURANCE CO., 424 WALNUT ST. Philadelphia, July 15, 1898
At a special meeting of the Board of Directors of the TEUTONIA FIRE INSURANCE COMPANY, held this day, the following resolutions were passed and spread upon the minutes:
WHEREAS, It having pleased Devine Providence to take from us Mr. EUGENE FRANSSEN, our honored President, therefore be it
RESOLVED, That we the officers and members of the Board of Directors hereby express our deep sorrow at the loss sustained by the company, family, friends, and the community.
During a period of 27 years Mr. FRANSSEN devoted himself to the interests of the company. His integrity of purpose, punctilious sense of honor, unobtrusive charity and love of truth commanded the respect of all who knew him and be it further
RESOLVED, That these resolutions be engrossed and tendered the bereaved family as a mark of our deep sympathy.

OBITUARY, Philadelphia Inquirer, July 13, 1898
FRANSSEN, On July 11, 1898, Eugene Franssen. The relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Thursday morning at 8:30 o'clock from his late residence at 2001 Pine Street. Services at St. Patrick's Church at 10 o'clock. Interment private.

In the 1860 census the enumeration was as follows:
Eugene Freeman (sic) 40 Clerk b France (next door)
Ann Coleman 30 PA
Eliza Coleman 23 PA
Lizzie Coleman 4 PA
