Osmon (known as Martin) Anderson met (Ingeborg) Bell Ness in Lisbon, Illinois. After marriage, they moved with son, Arent, to Ford County in 1888 because farm land was cheaper and more available. They bought 120 acres in the N.E. corner of section 36, Dix Township, Ford County, Ill. Later it was owned and farmed by one of his sons, Johnny E. Anderson. It was customary to put a small amount down, (i.e. $10) and pay off over the years. It was also common for people to borrow money from rich neighbors rather than banks as there werre few banks and loans were sometimes difficult to obtain. Sometimes they would pool their money in order to buy land.
