Mr. Walter Haywood Bowman, age 91, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

He was born on April 23, 1929 in Surry County to the late Virgil Turner and Gracie Melissa Goins Bowman.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will surely be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Bowman was a retired foreman from the NC Granite Cooperation and also proudly served our country in the United States Army.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Barbara Bowman of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene and Richard Holt, Angela and Robert Johnson, Kim Bowman; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Gwen Bowman step son, Sam Barbee and wife Janice; grandchildren, Justin Johnson, Jason and Danielle Johnson, Casey Hutchens and husband Beau; great- grandchildren, Isaac Johnson, Aiden Johnson; Elijah Johnson, Ava Hutchens Cole Hutchens; brother and sister-in-law, Coy and Bonnie Bowman; sisters-in-law, Nellie Bowman and Pat Bowman as well as a special care giver Teressa Ayers.

In addition to his parents Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by brothers, William “Bobby” and Sam Bowman.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Northside Baptist Church with services conducted by Rev. Dean Eaton and Rev. Kenneth Young. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens.
