Hill City near Van, lost a life-long resident and one of its best known citizens in the death of George Hill, 74, Saturday evening. Death was due to a fall which he suffered about 6 weeks ago. He was a son of Simon and Isabel Hill, pioneer residents of Venango county, and Hill City took its name from the family.
He was born June 25, 1858, and his entire life was spent on the farm on which he died. He was the last of the original farmers of that section. He was a member of the Hill City M. E. church and took a very active interest in its work. He was a tireless worker for the community in which he lived and was always associated with all projects for civic betterment.
On October 30, 1879, he married Elizabeth Moore, who died five years ago.
To this union were born four children, Mrs. Anna Ziegler, deceased, Mrs. O. W. Mark of Franklin, Mrs. C. F. Adamson of Meadville, and G. Hill of Hill City; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at the home at 2:30 pm Tuesday with Rev. Murray, pastor of Hill City M. E. church, officiating. Interment will be in Franklin cemetery.
