Mrs. James W. Ryan died 16 Oct 1897, aged 37. She was born Annie Grout in KY and moved to Shelbina, MO. Her parents died at an early age. She was adopted by her uncle, Dr. Gough, of Atchison, Kan. Came to St. Joseph, MO. She married Mr. Ryan, a well known Attorney, in St. Joseph, 6 Oct 1892. She leaves 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Services at the Cathedral church and burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Annie and her twin, Alden Rice Grout Jr., according to her obit, were born in Kentucky, however, Alden is shown as being born in Monroe County, Missouri in his Memorial and they are listed as being born in Missouri in the 1860 Census.
