AUGUSTUS CLARK ALDEN, son of Capt. Samuel and Lucy Ann (Lester) Clark. Born 15 May 1854, Norwich, New London, Connecticut. Died 11 Apr 1914, Elizabeth, Union, New Jersey. Buried 14 Apr 1914, Evergreen Cemetery, Elizabeth (Hillside), Union, New Jersey. "Gus" Alden was adopted by his mother's third husband, William H. Alden. Gus was a carpenter and engineer, while Mary did work as a seamstress and a nurse. Gus worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Company, as well as Gilcrest Manufacturing. Gus and Mary began their married life in West Farms, a section of New York City, where her mother and stepfather lived. They left there around 1879 and settled in Elizabeth, Union County, New Jersey. After her husband's passing in 1914, Mary followed her children to Bridgeport, Connecticut. She returned to New Jersey for a while, and then came back to Bridgeport where she died. Mary is mentioned in the 1898 will of James Greenfield Rowland, Jr. as his stepdaughter. He left her a considerable inheritance. Mary lived with her son George in her later years. Had children:
