Abraham Kessel was born in Ujpest, and after arriving in Muskogee, was a shopkeeper who ran both clothing stores and shoe repair shops in the Farmer's Marketing district on both S. 2nd and S. Main street. He was naturalized at the District Court in Muskogee in 1924. With his first wife, Carolyn, he had four children: Harry, Lee, Rose and Jenny. After Carolyn's death, he married Ruth Raisher, and had three children: Lester, Rose and Barney. Barney Kessel is known internationally as one of the top legendary jazz guitarists in the world.
At the time of Abraham's death, he had a shoe repair shop at 200 S. Main in downtown Muskogee.
