He began his career as a columnist for the Montreal Gazette, then on to the Montreal Star and Montreal News. He later entered politics and beacame an important Montreal City Councillor. He was the author of the book, "The Billion Dollar Game", which told the story of the supposed crookedness of the 1976 Olympics. He was the father of 'Hole' bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur, who replaced Kristen Pfaff after her death in 1994. He died in 1998 at the age of 55 from cancer.
