World War II Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Jemadar in the 11th Sikh Regiment, Indian Army. On March 11, 1944, during an attack on Japanese forces at Arakan, Burma, Jemadar Singh leading a section, was ordered to recapture a position gained by the enemy. He led his section up a very steep ridge under heavy machine-gun fire and although wounded he captured the first trench. He then crawled forward alone was wounded again, but nevertheless captured the second and third trenches. For gallantry on the battlefield, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal.
