EARLIMART, Tulare County -- The highway patrol reported an unidentified woman walking along Highway 99 two and a half miles south of Earlimart last midnight was injured fatally when she was hit by a truck driven by James Wisdom, 39, of Norwalk, Los Angeles County.
The investigating officers said the woman, 65 to 70 years old, was walking south in the north bound lane. She was carrying a bird cage containing a canary. The truck was traveling north, the officers said.
The woman died about 15 minutes after being admitted to the Tulare County Hospital in Tulare, where she was taken by a Pixley ambulance. The body was removed to the Hamilton Peers Chapel in Tulare.
She was wearing a man's coat and a print dress. She had gray hair and gray eyes.
