1) We met him in the mid-'60s when my dad bought an air-cooled 1919 Franklin touring car, and joined the H.H. Franklin Club. Adin, also in the club, had a similar car, and he offered advice on the restoration; he lived less than 100 miles away.
2) Every two years, Adin would buy a new Chevrolet - black, the lowest model, but with the largest engine and a 4-speed manual transmission. He was sure to buy a new one when the 1959s came out, but he hated the fins on that model, so he waited a year. About then, Chevrolet stopped putting manual transmissions in the model he wanted, so he got one with an automatic and had the local dealer take that transmission out, and put in a manual.
3) On the back of the kitchen door hung a calendar, over 20 years old. Dated August, 1943, the 2nd was marked "Lois died."
