Father: Robert Nelson Gamble .Mother:Lillie Craven Kathryn D. Houk passed peacefully on Friday morning, January 7, 2011, at 10am in the tender care of the nursing staff at Hamilton Grove, New Carlisle, Indiana.
She was born in Allenport, PA on March 10, 1912 to Lillie Craven Gamble and Robert Nelson Gamble and was the last of 9 children from that union preceded in death by her 4 brothers; Elroy, Edwin, Edward and Delbert, and 4 sisters; Rena, Mary, Lillian and Betty.
She enjoyed RV'ing with her husband, Bob. It was not unlike them to surprise friends and family with a knock on the door announcing their arrival from what started out as just a "long weekend drive". They spent their retirement years caravanning with friends to local Indiana camp grounds where they enjoyed fellowship around potluck dinners and campfires. When the Indiana weather turned to winter, they regularly travelled to Florida where they spent warmer days near extended family only to hurry back in the Spring for family celebrations ~ birthdays and such.
She is survived by a son, Dennis Houk and his wife Denise of Rolling Prairie, Ind.; two daughters, Nancy Houk; and Rena Arnett and her husband, Toy of Destin, Florida. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death was her husband, Robert G. Houk, her son Robert D. Morris and her daughter Joyce Rutkowski.
Remembrances may be made to the Nursing Staff, East Wing or the Meadows, Hamilton Grove, 31869 Chicago Trail, New Carlisle IN 46552.
Memorial services will be held at a future date at the Houk Family Cemetery, Horse Cave, Kentucky. Arrangements are being handled by Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.
