US Congressman. He graduated from Farmer’s College, in 1848, from the Law School of Cincinnati College, in 1851, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Dayton, Ohio, in 1851. He was a member of the Ohio State Senate, (1862-65) appointed by Congress a member of the Board of Managers of the National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, serving (1864-71) and appointed by President Grant U.S. commissioner to investigate frauds practiced on the Cherokee, Chickasaw and Creek Indians, in 1871. In 1873, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-third Congress. serving until 1875. After serving in Congress, he was President of the Dayton Public Savings Bank, took the Ohio State Bar to the newly formed National Bar Association as president (1888-90) and continued to practice of law until his death at age 76.
