Sovereign of Scotland. In Celtic language Domnald II Mac Causantín known as "the madman" (dásachtach), he was the son of Causantín Mac Cináeda or King Constantine of the Mc Alpin dynasty. According to the Chronicle of the Kings of the Scots (Chronicles of Alba) he was crowned king of Scotland and the Picts around 889 as a successor to the joint kingdom of Giric and Eochaid of Scotland. According to some historians, with his advent the territories of Alba, Picts and Scoti were unified with the name of Scotland. The question is still controversial as the annals are intertwined with legends and prophecies (Berchàn prophecy). Another controversy concerns the circumstances of his death which for some occurred in Dunnotar and for others in Forres (900).
