Stan Stearns, who took the now famous photo of John F Kennedy, Jr. (John-John) saluting the passing casket of his father (President John F. Kennedy) passed away of cancer in Hospice Care.
Mr. Stearns was president of the White House Photographer's Association in 1969.
Stanley Frank Stearns was born in Annapolis. He began working as a photographer for the Capitol newspaper at 16. He served in the US Air Force for four years as a photographer for the Stars and Stripes, before joining the U.P.I.. He joined at the end of the Eisenhower Administration, and later covered the Johnson and Nixon administrations. In the early 1970's he opened his own photography studio in Annapolis.
Stan is survived by a son, a brother, and four grandchildren.
