Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Captain in the Union Army. He was awarded the Medal of Honor as a Sergeant in Company C, 154th New York Infantry for action on May 8, 1864 at Dug Gap, Georgia. His citation reads "Voluntarily risked his life in rescuing under the fire of the enemy a wounded comrade who was lying between the lines."
