A native of Brooklyn, New York born to Greek immigrants Scourby was an accomplished stage, screen, and radio actor and possessed a deep, rich resonant voice perfect for narration. In addition to appearing in the movies "The Big Heat" (1953) with Glenn Ford, and "The Devil at 4 O'clock (1961), he also appeared in the TV series "The Asphalt Jungle," "Naked City" and "The Defenders." He provided narration for "Victory at Sea" (1954) and for classical productions such as "Ship of Fools" and "War and Peace." Married to actress Lori March, they had a daughter Alexandra.
