A pioneer and patriot in his own right, James Sr served in Fitch's 3rd Connecticut regiment during the French & Indian War. During the American Revolution, he served as Captain of the First Alarm List Company, 24th PA (Forty Fort)regiment. He survived the massacre at Wyoming, but a short time later was thrown from his horse and captured by Indians where he was removed to Canada and held prisoner for quite some time before his release. Son of Benjamin and Lydia (Abbe) Bidlake.
