She was born on Sept. 27, 1930 in the Liberty Township near Chapman, Kan., the daughter of Harvey and Mary Margaret (Wilson) Shippy. She graduated from Woodbine Rural High School in 1948 and then received her Bachelor's Degree in dietary science from Kansas State University.
She was married on March 16, 1957 in Manhattan, Kan., to Clark Blockcolsky. He preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 2011.
Vida was a homemaker and helped her husband with the family business, Blue Valley Electric and Building Supply in Olsburg, Kan. She was a member of the Harbour Church and enjoyed cooking, collecting recipes, gardening and spending time with her granddaughters. She loved to travel and had taken trips to Alaska to sightsee and to Mexico for mission trips with her husband.
She is survived by one son, Lyle Blockcolsky and wife Nancy of Olsburg; two daughters, Martha Turner and husband Jim of Olsburg and Doris Dougherty of Decatur, Ill.; four grandchildren, Laura Turner of Olsburg, Jennifer Wipf and husband Troy of Dodge City, Kan., Maribeth Turner of Great Bend, Kan. and Michaela Blockcolsky of Olsburg; two brothers, Harlan Shippy and wife Sarah of Phoenix, Ariz. and Bill Shippy and wife Nora of Woodbine, Kan.; one sister, Amy Elson and husband Don of Blacksburg, Va. and family friend, Tracy Smith.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Alden, Dale and David Shippy.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Olsburg United Methodist Church in Olsburg, Kan., with Pastors Phoebe Pitney and Dick Miller officiating. Respect calls may be made anytime Thursday at the Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kan. where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in the Carnahan Creek Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for the Harbour Church and Living Water Ranch. Contributions may be left in care of the Holmes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
