Was born in Morgan County, oldest of 7 children of Carrie Bowen and Virgil Alvis-Lived his adult life in Cullman County, then later Hunstville in Madison County-father of 9 children. Was a painter by trade and enjoyed bowling, dancing, sharing colorful tales of his childhood and "the good old days", and spending time with his family and his precious grandchildren, who knew him simply as "Grandpa"--also,in his younger days, was an avid pool player.He was particularly proud of having accepted the Lord as his personal Savior at an early age and having been baptized in a river not too far from his home church, New Hope North Baptist, where many of his relatives are now buried at.
