Italian Royalty, Queen of Bulgaria. Born Giovanna Elisabetta Antonia Romana Maria. She was the daughter of the King of Italy Vittorio Emanuele III and Queen Elena. In 1930, she married King Boris III of Bulgaria. During the World War II , her husband was poisoned, and she was sent into exile with her two sons, first to Egypt with the parents, and thereafter in Portugal. She returned for the first time in Bulgaria in 1993, after the fall of communism. During her reign as queen of Bulgaria, was very well liked and her return was greeted with great enthusiasm by the Bulgarian people.
