Born Edna Marie Hamlow to August(1864-1922)and Hulda(1869-1952) Hamlow on January 29, 1896 in Nebraska. As the only girl in a family of boys, she was treated like a slave by her mother, Hulda, but Edna never complained and always did what she was told. The family came to California in 1912, after living in Minnesota for a while. In 1914 Edna escaped her mother when she married at the age of 18 to a man named Lester Heidt(1895-1969). Lester was a foolish man that cheated and mis-treated Edna. He lacked as a father, and became un-wanted, but Edna loved him. Tired of seeing her mother suffer, her daughter Marian took it upon herself to move out her own father, Edna did not fight it. They divorced in 1937, and she married Jack who treated Edna like a she should be treated, a queen. Edna was a very sweet giving lady. Edna remembered everyone's birthday and anniversary and if you did not receive a card from anyone, there would be one from Edna. She smelled of sweet powder she liked a cigarette and a glass of wine every night before she went to bed. She was known for her tasty cookies. No matter who you were she always had a smile and a kind word. In 1980, a normally active 84 year old fell and broke her hip, and did it again years later. Her daughter Pauline lived down the street, and came to take care of Edna in her final years. One day when Pauline went home to feed the dog, someone came to the door, Edna answered it. The man threatened her and she gave him all the money she kept in the house. She continually got worse. She did not talk as much, for if she made a mistake either Marian or Pauline would correct her. She was 93 years old when she died of Pneumonia. After 25 years she is still missed.
