PIONEER LADY PASSES BEYOND

Another pioneer, "Grandma" Mary P. Christensen, who has called Richfield her home for more than fifty years, passed away about noon Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs J. W. Ross after a lingering illness. Mrs. Christensen was born at Aarhaus, Denmark, December 6, 1847, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Soren Peterson. She came with her parents parent to Utah in 1863. The journey across the ocean in a sailing vessel required nearly eight weeks. From New York City the family came most of the way to Winter Quarters by train making part of the trip by boat down the Mississippi, the change in route being necessitated by the civil war. Mrs. Christensen, with other members of the family walked the greater part of the way from Winter Quarters to Salt Lake City. They lived there ther for a year or two later moving to Morgan county where Mary met and married Lars Peter Christensen with their family of four children they came to Richfield in 1876 and assisted in many pioneer enterprises. As Mrs. Christensen was of a retiring disposition her deeds cannot be counted in public activities but in kindness to everyone with whom she came in contact. She was a faithful member of the relief society and also of the daughters of Utah pioneers. Mrs. Christensen the youngest of her fathers family has no brothers or sisters surviving but is survived by the following children, H. S. Christensen, Mrs. J. W. Ross, Mrs. J. H. Ford and Chester H. Christensen of Richfield; George Christensen of Idaho Falls, Idaho, W. W. Christensen of Laguna Beach, California, Mrs. M. L. Brown, Mrs. J. J. Barton and Leo Christensen of Long Beach, California. Forty one grandchildren and thirty great grand children survive.
