HENRY J. COUCH, EX-PRESIDENT OF BUILDERS CLUB OF CHICAGO
Mass for Henry J. Couch, 70, retired executive director of the Ventilating & Air Conditioning Association of Chicago, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church, 8808 S. Ridgeland Ave., Oak Lawn.
Mr. Couch, who retired from the now-defunct association in 1975 because of illness, died Thursday in Billings Hospital of the University of Chicago. He was well-known in the building industry as a speaker and writer, and was a columnist for HAC Magazine a trade journal for heating and air conditioning contractors,
He was president of the Builders Club of Chicago in 1969 and served during the 1960s on a committee -- appointed by the late Mayor Richard J. Daley -- that dealt with the city's building code.
For 30 years, he was involved in a leadership role at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, where he was parish historian. He organized the parish Holy Name Society and was its first president, and was a lector and commentator in the pioneer days of lay participation in the Catholic Church. He was also a promoter of Mayslake Retreat in Hinsdale.
Mr. Couch is survived by his wife, Maurita; two sons, Patrick and Dennis; two daughters, Penny Rosenkoetter and Peggy Greene; seven grandchildren; a brother; and three sisters.
