First Lady of Maryland, wife of Governor John Eager Howard to whom she was married May 18, 1787 at Christ Church, Philadelphia. She was a daughter of Chief Justice Benjamin Chew and his wife Elizabeth Oswald. George Washington writes of attending her wedding in his diary on May 23, 1787. She gave birth to ten children: Rebecca Howard who married Charles Ridgely; John Eager Howard, Jr. who married Cornelia Annebella Reed; George Howard who married Prudence Carnan Ridgely; Benjamin Chew Howard; William Howard who married Rebecca Ann Key; Julianna Howard who died at 25; James Howard; Sophia Catherine Howard; Charles Howard who married Elizabeth Phobe Key and Mary Ann Howard. Often better known for her connection with the Mischianza and Major André. She died at Baltimore.
