Charlotte Robertson was the daughter of Alexander Robertson and Margaret Robinson (The Kentucky Encyclopedia, edited by John E. Kleber, p 776, about her brother George). She was the second wife of Governor Robert Perkins Robertson of Goochland Co., VA. They had no known children together. Her brother was Kentucky Congressman George Robertson (1790 - 1874).

Charlotte Robertson married Robert P Letcher, on 5 Feb 1818 in Garrard, Kentucky. William Jenninger is listed under bond. Kentucky Marriages 1797 - 1954, line 1135, original register consulted. Familysearch.

On the 1850 Dist. 2, Franklin Co., KY census, I found Minister to Mexico, Robert P Letcher, 61 and Charlotte Letcher, 54, with Maria Cronly, 28, all KY born.

On the 1860 Frankfort, Franklin Co., KY census, I found lawyer Robt P Letcher, 70 and Charlotte Letcher, 65, with Maria Connelly, 23, all KY born.

She was widowed on 24 Jan 1861.

On the 1870 Frankfort, Franklin Co., KY census, I found Charlott Letcher, 76, residing with Rebecca Barb___, 65 and Mariah Cronly,* 40 with 4 domestics, all KY born.
*Miss Maria Cronly, for many years the devoted nurse and companion of Mrs. Charlotte Letcher, of Frankfort, is at present residing with her sister, Mrs. Ann Hopper, of this place. The 21 Nov 1879 issue of the Interior Journal (Stanford, KY).

Death of Mrs. Governor Letcher. Mrs. Charlotte Letcher, widow of ex-Governor Robt. P. Letcher, died at her residence in this city last Wednesday evening, at eight o'clock, aged 87 years. She had been in good health until Monday evening, at which time she took tea with Mr. John B Bibb, on the ninetieth anniversary of his birthday. Tuesday afternoon she was troubled with a cough, and took a small dose of what she supposed was powdered alum, but which proved to be arsenic. She was taken ill in a few hours afterward, and rapidly grew worse until she died. She removed to this city in 1840 with her husband when he was elected Governor, and had grown old in our midst, universally loved and respected by all who knew her, and her death is deeply regretted by the entire community. Her funeral took place from the Presbyterian Church, of which she had long been a consistent member, yesterday afternoon and was largely attended. 1 Nov 1879 issue of the Weekly Roundabout, p 2. (see photo).

LETCHER - Mrs. Charlotte, widow of Governor R. P. Letcher and sister of the late Justice George Robinson (sic), died at her home in Frankfort last week from the effects of arsenic administered by mistake for burnt alum. The Yeoman says her father was a member of the first County Court of Lincoln, of which Mercer then formed a part. He was elected a delegate to the Virginia Convention, and also member of the Virginia Legislature succeeding the _?_ of the Convention. He, with Patrick Henry ad all the Kentucky delegation except Humphrey Marshall, voted against the adoption of the Constitution. At an early age she married Robert of Garrard county. He was elected to Congress in 1823, succeeding John Speed Smith, and continued a member of that body until 1833. In 1840 he was elected Governor, appointed Minister to Mexico in 1849, and died in 1861. Upon his election as Governor he removed to Frankfort, which continued to be his residence until his death. Mrs. Letcher was a lady who, in her prime, was conspicuous equally for her accomplishment of mind and grave of person, adorning every station in which she was called by the prominence of her distinguished husband. SHe was in her 87th year, and was the great aunt of Mrs. Judge O__ley. "From the Interior Journal Newspaper Friday Nov 7, 1879 (see 5-2012 photos)"
