The Marion Sentinel Thursday August 11, 1977
Fred J. Lang, 82, formerly of 842 Fourth Avenue, and a resident of Marion since 1920 until recent years when he left Marion to live near his son, died Wednesday, July 27 in a Veterans Hospital at Cleveland, Ohio. He was born the son of Joseph and Mary Richards[sic] Lang on Sept. 8, 1894 at Hopkinton. On Sept. 29, 1920 at Monticello he was married to Grace H. Snell. Mr. Lang served with the U.S. Army during World War I, and was employed as a heating engineer at Marion High School and St. Berchman's Academy for 35 years. He was a member of the Marion Christian church and Mairon Post No. 298, American Legion.
Surviving are his wife; a son, James Lang of Cleveland, Ohio; five grandchildren, Carolyn, Robert, Richard, Cathryn and Melissa Lang; there sisters, Mrs. Fredda Ketelsen of Center Junction, and Mrs. Joe (Carrie) Poeschel of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Margaret Glantz of Hopkinton; three brothers, William Lang of Monticello, Edward Lang of Cuba City, Wis., and Richard Lang of Platteville, Wis. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Skelding and a brother, John Lang.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1 at the Murdoch chapel in Marion, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Anthony. Interment was in Oak Shade Cemetery.
