Ruth O. Hollins was born May 26, 1913, the eldest daughter of Albert and Jessie May (Blackburn) Runquist. She was born in Antelope County in rural Royal, Neb. She lived in Royal until the third grade, when her family moved to Marion, Iowa. She graduated from Marion High School, where she became a librarian.

She married Emmett Zollars on Jan. 19, 1936. They lived most of their married life in Shenandoah, Iowa. Emmett passed away Aug. 9, 1972. Ruth then married Wayne Phipps of Shenandoah on June 1, 1973. Wayne passed away Feb. 24, 1983. She married Robert "Doc" Hollins of Moville on Oct. 20, 1988. The couple lived in Moville until the time of his death, Aug. 31, 2000. Ruth then made her home at Char Mac Assisted Living in Lawton.

Ruth was an avid bird watcher and member of the Audubon Society. She traveled throughout the United States into Mexico and overseas on bird-watching excursions. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She had a strong interest in her ancestry and genealogy. Ruth enjoyed reading, the outdoors, being the Char Mac librarian and crocheting.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Don and Garland; and two sisters, Evelyn and Jess.
