Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. At the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted as a Private in the 71st New York State Militia. When that unit was mustered out in the Summer of 1861, he enlisted in the 57th New York Volunteer Infantry, being commissioned it's Major on September 28, 1861. He served in this capacity throughout the Battles of 1862 and early 1863, seeing action during the Peninsular Campaign, the 7 Days Battles, the Battle of Antietam, and the Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville Campaigns. Wounded during the latter campaign, he received a transfer to the Invalid Corps on June 18, 1863 and became the Lieutenant Colonel of the 12th Veterans Reserve Corps. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on November 30, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious services". After the war he was a broker, and a United States Customs official. He died in 1875 in New York City.
