MOTORIST WHO HIT AND RAN IS SELF-BETRAYED
A nervous hit and run driver, seeking to establish a false alibi for himself, furnished the clew that enabled the Englewood police last night to solve the mystery in the death of Charles Howard Mitchell, 6700 Perry avenue, a veteran attorney.
Mitchell, who has 71 years old, was at one time counsel for the board of election commissioners. He was struck down Friday evening at Wentworth avenue and Marquette road. The driver sped on an the police were unable to find any witnesses who could identify the car. Mitchell died a few hours later in St. Bernard's hospital.

Funeral services for Charles H. Mitchell, former counsel for the board of election commissioners, will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the chapel at 63d street and Harvard avenue. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery. Mr. Mitchell was injured fatally Friday night when he was struck by an automoble at Wentworth avenue and Marquette road. He was 71 years old and lived at 6700 Perry avenue. He leaves his widow, Edith, and a daughter, Mrs. Doris Mitchell Hastings of Kingston, Jamaica.
