CHILES, MARY HUDDLESTON Age 93, died peacefully in her sleep on April 28, 2012. She was the widow of Audra E. Chiles, called Andy, and the mother of John Chiles, a Birmingham attorney, and the late Nancy Chiles. The family lived in Albertville, AL. Mary was the eldest of the five children of George and Bertha Baxley Huddeston. Though born in Alabama, Mary attended public school in Washington, D.C. where for 22 years her father represented the Jefferson County district in the U.S. Congress from Woodrow Wilson to Franklin Roosevelt. When the family re-settled in Birmingham in 1937, Mary entered Birmingham-Southern College. She graduated in 1941, at which time four Huddleston children were students there and ultimately graduates. Also graduating in 1941 was Mary's brother, George, Jr., who later followed in his father's footsteps and represented Jefferson County in Congress. Her brother John practiced law in Montgomery. Both brothers are deceased. Mary worked for the Prudential Insurance Company until her marriage and move to Albertville. In addition to her son, she is survived by her daughter-in-law, Frances Heidt, three grandchildren, Mary, Anna, and Robert Chiles, and her two sisters, Jane Aaron and Nancy Packer, both of Palo Alto, California. The family would like to thank Mary's caregivers, Irma Levert, Dorothy Sullivan, Maliria Mosley and Adell Webb, for their faithful and devoted service to her. A visitation will be held at the Adams-Brown Funeral Home in Albertville, on Tuesday, from 1 to 3 pm, with a family graveside service to follow.
